EXECUTIVE FUNCTION COACHING

Executive function is a set of mental skills that include working memory, flexible thinking, and self control. We use these skills every day. Trouble with executive function can make it hard to focus, follow directions, and handle emotions.
Executive function coaching teaches kids how to become more efficient learners. It is a process that typically starts out slowly by first building rapport until students begin to be open to change and are willing to try new strategies. Strategy instruction is designed to teach kids HOW to learn to help them acquire, remember, and express or use information (how to ask questions to gather information, how to listen for information, how to record information for recall, how to organize information, how to vet information, how to stay on track or self-regulate to reach set goals).
EF coaching might focus on:
-
Organizing
-
Keeping tabs on things
-
Managing time
-
Learning study skills (note taking, mnemonics, connecting information)
-
Practicing strategies in a variety of opportunities.
-
Self-evaluating
-
Following directions
-
Strategic planning
-
Moving through the writing process
At this time, we offer 1:1 and small group executive function coaching.
