Executive Function Coaching

Executive function is a set of mental skills that include working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control. We use these skills every day. Trouble with executive function can make it hard to focus, follow directions, and handle emotions, both in and out of the classroom.

Coaching might focus on:

  • Visual Notetaking

  • Reading  and  listening comprehension

  • Managing time

  • Learning study skills (note-taking, mnemonics, connecting information)

  • Practicing strategies in a variety of opportunities.

  • Moving through the writing process

  • Following directions

  • Strategic planning

  • Self-evaluating

About EF Coaching

Executive function coaching teaches kids how to become more efficient learners. Strategy instruction is designed to teach kids HOW to learn to help them acquire, remember, and express or use information (how to ask questions to gather information, how to listen for information, how to record information for recall, how to organize information, how to vet information, how to stay on track or self-regulate to reach set goals).

Our Executive function coaching sets itself apart because it prioritizes co-creating strategies via trial and error and self-reflection. Students become more aware of how they learn and what they need so that they can advocate for themselves and generalize these strategies.
