Dyslexia Evaluations
Reading screeners, assessments and program evaluations are key to best understanding your child's reading and writing skills. We use data from these tests along with a short interview with parents to gain developmental or diagnostic information to help our tutors to choose the best reading program and practices to use with your child or to help you navigate services with your child's school. We are able to use data from these tests to understand your child's strengths, plan for areas of focus, and to bring awareness to any red flags that are related to reading or writing. We are unable to diagnose a child for a reading disorder or disability, such as dyslexia, as this must be done through educational or neuropsychological assessments completed by a school, clinical or nuero-psychologist.
Reading Skill
We currently use the Texas Primary Reading Inventory to gain a sample of data relating to your child's skills in the areas of phonemic awareness, graphophonemic awareness, word reading, listening comprehension, and/or reading comprehension skills. This is administered by grade level, kindergarten-third grade. The first grade screener has been used by many school districts within the Houston area after a full year of reading instruction in kindergarten to screen for children that are "at-risk" for dyslexia.

In addition, we may use one or a mix of mastery checks from the Neuhaus Education Center programs (such as Reading Readiness, Basic Language Skills, Language Enrichment, etc...), mastery checks from Region IV's Reading by Design program, and/or phoneme inventories from the University of Southern Mississippi's DuBard Association Method to match a reading program that will best fit your child's reading and writing needs.
What does your Dyslexia Intervention look like?
We are trained in a variety of reading interventions that are effective in supporting students with dyslexia. These include Neuhaus and Association Method. Our sessions are multi-sensory and incorporate decoding, comprehension, spelling, and writing mechanics.
